I have been doing a lot of research on KitchenAid Mixers. Below is some information I felt may be of use to others trying to decide on a new KitchenAid Mixer.

If you have questions regarding a KitchenAid Mixer or other KitchenAid product, the KitchenAid Forums are a good place to start. The questions are answered by users and KitchenAid Employees. KitchenAid Employees will have "KitchenAid" in front of their name ex. "KitchenAid_Sally"

To find the forums go to the KitchenAid Website, select "Customer Service" at the top, then select "Join KitchenAid Conversations" at the bottom of the page, then select "View all topics". There is a forum just for Stand Mixers. Sorry no direct link - Amazon deleted it. You will find information on model numbers, accessories, features, adjustments, etc. There are user tips and recipies too. You must sign up for the forums to submit a question.

Standard, Pro, or something in-between?

If you have just basic current and future mixing needs and like tilt models, or you think a little extra noise from metal gears may bother you, a basic model may be a good choice.

If you think a pro model may be too much and the basic too little, take a look at the KA Accolade 400 series tilt-head mixer with a 400 watt motor and all-steel gears (RKN15E1XMR).

Note: Tilt models do have to tilt which will require more space above the machine.

Why Go Pro?

The pro models have bigger motors, all-steel gears, and a more durable build that can handle large (double +) batches or heavy bread doughs etc. that could cause non-pro models to bog down and overheat while mixing or strip their plastic gears. The pro models are a little heavier so they don't move around while mixing things like bread dough. Also, the Pro models can use the PowerKnead(tm) spiral dough hook attachment. The spiral attachment is not recommened for lower models, and its use could void the warranty. The Pro Models are lift only and a little larger then the tilt-head models.

Note: KitchenAid has designed a new metal transmission housing to replace the plastic housing used on the Pro 600, Pro 5+, and Pro HD for some added strength. I do not know which ones have been upgraded or how to tell which one a machine has except to open it and look. For most people the plastic one should be fine. If you are someone who likes to push their equipment to the limit, you may want to check for the metal housing.

What's the difference? Pro HD, Pro 5+ and Pro 600

The differece between the KG25 (Professional HD) and the similar KV25 (Professional 5 Plus Series), is basically just the mixing bowl design. The KG25 has a narrower and taller bowl then the KV25 which has a wider bowl that is the same width as the 6qt bowl on the Pro 600 but not as deep. Other then that, there is not much difference. The Pro 600 is the Pro 5+ with a bigger motor and bowl. One review states the Pro 600 and Pro 5 plus can share bowls, but I have not verified this. They all share internal parts, so they should be equal as far as build quality. For more parts info, you can go to PartSelect and lookup Whirpool model KG25H-4 (Kitchenaid is a division of Whirlpool). Many of the parts are cross referenced as the same parts for the 5 plus, Pro HD and Pro 600. The site also provides the service schematics.

Personal Choice

I originally ordered the RKG25H0XWH but then decided on the RKV25G0XWW for an extra $40. Basically I chose the KV25 for the wider bowl and a little broader selection of attachments. I think the KV25 can also use the 6qt bowl from the pro600 and maybe a possible smaller bowl that KitchenAid is considering.

This is the Professional HD, not the pictured mixer

The mixer sold with this model number is the Kitchenaid Professional HD, not the one shown in the picture. This was a model created exclusively for club warehouse stores such as Costco. The primary differences between this and the mixer in the description are that the bowl is a narrow one (as opposed to the wide one shown in the picture), and this one is 475 watts (though it has the same flour capacity). It also has the spiral dough hook, all metal gearing, and electronic motor control.

Explore your world with an excellent value GPS

The Magellan eXplorist 400 is a feature packed Global Positioning Satellite receiver that should be seriously considered before any other if you want accessories such as memory expandability and PC connectivity to upload topographic and/or street maps to your GPS -- all at a value price point.

While this model can be used for car travel, the eXplorist 400 is a compact, handheld unit that's intended for hiking, orienteering and other fun in the great outdoors. It weighs about six ounces with a backlit B&W screen that's the size of a closed paper matchbook. Backlight is red and settings are low, high and off; the display is easy to see and use in the dark, but it does run the battery down quickly. According to the Magellan website, a fully charged battery will last up to 8 hours using the full backlight. With the backlight off, the battery will last up to 17 hours of continuous use; that's about three hours longer than the usual rating of about 14 hours for a pair of AA alkaline batteries.

The eXplorist 400 model provides virtually unlimited memory expansion with the Secure Digital (SD) memory card slot (an SD card is about the size of a postage stamp); it's located inside the unit under the rechargeable Lithium Ion battery. The method for charging the battery is to attach the PC USB connection cable to the GPS unit and then plug either the AC adapter or DC car charger into the cable; proper orientation of the PC cable to the back of the unit is not covered in the paper Basic User Manual that comes in the box, but it is in the Reference Manual that's on the installation CD. Included software comes with a MapSend Manager and Conversion program that is only compatible with Windows 2000 and above so you can use MapSend, Magellan's topographic and street mapping/routing software that pre-dates the eXplorist series. It comes on CD-ROM that runs on your PC, and you need the above noted utilities to upload maps to your GPS.

The unit is a lot of fun to use while the action buttons, menus and display are fairly intuitive; there's a lot to cover regarding usage so you will want to spend some time experimenting with it before venturing too far afield. Once you do, however, you will find it to be accurate and confidence inspiring. While the packaging says the unit is waterproof to IPX7 rating (a European test specification), it only covers accidental immersion in just over three feet of water for about thirty minutes. The battery compartment lid doesn't look watertight enough to meet this specification even though there's a gasket under the lid around the opening for the battery/SD memory slot, so just be careful with it around water.

GPS units generally have a fairly high learning curve, and the more you want to do with them the more complicated they become. Magellan models have a quality feel to them, but the documentation and website you need to use leaves something to be desired because they have a lot of gaps.

I LOVE IT

I JUST GOT MY BISSELL QUICKSTEAMER YESTERDAY AND I USED IT YESTERDAY, I LOVE IT. I NEEDED IT FOR MY DOG, HE SOMETIMES DOES'NT LIKE TO GO OUT SIDE. IT WORKED GREAT.
